Saturday, we did the gift shopping thing – didn’t find much, but spent the afternoon doing it
Then we drove to Healy to see what was in town. We followed the main street of town to take a picture of the only coal fired electric plant in Alaska. We also took a picture of the sign for the Usibelli Coal Mine, next to the power plant.
After our normal 4:00 social hour, we gathered three grills, and burned our own steaks and burgers. Everyone brought sides such as salads, beans, and Marilyn’s pineapple angel cake.
This morning, the 10th, we moved nine miles to the Riley Campground off the entrance road to Denali National Park. Here is a picture of our site.
In the afternoon, we went to the Ranger led Sled Dog Demonstration. Denali is the only National Park in the US that has sled dog teams (30 dogs) that provide demonstrations in the summer, and patrol the park in the winter. These are all Alaskan Huskies.
Here is the Ranger riding a sled being pulled by 5 Huskies.
And, here are pictures of Marilyn and yours truly standing on a sled.
Type at you later.
