Yes, the first of July. That means that our year is half over??
Well, we had a good day anyway. Marilyn and I started by walking the half mile to beautiful downtown Talkeetna. They are planning a moose raffle for the 4th of July, so many of the businesses have at least one moose in front of their buildings. Even the Post Office has one.
At 3:15 we went on a jet boat ride on three rivers: the Talkeetna, Susitna, and Chulitna. This boat goes 30mph up river, and 40 down. The rivers are shallow with 18 inches to 8 feet of water. The captain said he only needed 1 foot of water once he was up on step. The start of this adventure was a ride on this old school bus to get to the boat.
We saw a couple of eagles (including baby in nest), and a beaver. However, I was not fast enough to get a picture of the beaver.
Along the route, we stopped to see an example of an Indian summer home in Alaska, and a typical trapper’s cabin.
Here is Dennis showing off some of his pictures to Carol and Sharon.
On the way back, we were able to see the top of Mt. McKinley (Denali to the Indians) peaking between two cloud layers. Of course this jewel is 50 miles away from us.
